The Best Liar
MA Design Critical Practice
This project started with research into the phenomenon of Hikkomori (Japan – teens or young adults, usually male, who retire to their bedrooms and live their entire lives in that space alone) or Zhai (China – game-addicted teens or young adults that become de-socialised). The project is a game, initially online, that encourages Hikkomori/Zhai to ‘socialise’ and engage with a world beyond their rooms and the virtual (game) spaces accessed through their computers. There is a short animation (about one minute) that shows the rules of the game, and a micro film (about five minutes), which show how it works.
