Fashion maker / storyteller
The context of my work is Modest Islamic Fashion – focusing on headwear. My starting point was the process of indigo dyeing, representing a universally available and natural dyestuff that transcends cultures and national boundaries. Intensive research into the culture and history of covering up in the East and West and my personal interactions and conversations with Muslim women has led me to street photography and the making of discursive clothing objects. I would like to initiate dialogue and understanding by inviting visitors to try on examples of modest clothing. In times of increasing suspicions between people of different cultures and faiths it is important to make any effort to connect with each other.
