MA Design Critical Practice

There is an unwritten consensus that empathy should be intrinsic within design practice, however, the teleological nature of the design process can end up totalising the experience at the expense of the capacity for reflection. It is ‘subjectivity’ that needs further scrutiny – especially in the current times in relation to human engagement on wider level, where desensitisation towards the ‘Other’ has become the force majeure in the drive for power and the rise of a new populist rhetoric. My intention is to create frameworks for encounters using simple structures that could function as research booths to facilitate a shared listening experience for participants leading to an engagement of interpersonal subjectivity.
